Kay M. Albrecht, Ph.D.
Kay M. Albrecht, Ph.D. is president of Innovations in Early Childhood Education, located in Houston, TX. Widely known as an advocate for high quality early childhood education and development opportunities for all children, she specializes in writing, management consultation, and director/administrator and staff professional development.
Adept at pulling together theoretical information and translating it into meaningful, effective, educational use, she is a highly sought-after consultant. A frequent keynote and seminar speaker, she has presented at professional development conferences and workshops throughout the US and around the world.
Teaching in some capacity has been the bulk of Kay's life work, beginning with her first assignment as a preschool teacher in a laboratory setting. She has continued her work with young children and the adults who teach them ever since. She has been the director of a nationally accredited early childhood program for children from birth through age 8 and on the faculty in early childhood education at 4 universities. A frequent contributor to Exchange Magazine, she serves as academic editor and a consultant on special projects and created Exchange's Out of the Box Early Childhood Training Kits.
She is the co-author, along with Michelle Forrester, of Social Emotional Tools for Life: An Early Childhood Teacher's Guide to Supporting Strong Emotional Foundations and Successful Social Relationships, published by Innovations in ECE Press . She is also the author of The Right Fit: Recruiting, Selecting, and Orienting Staff, published by New Horizons,and the Innovations series of curriculum, development, and training materials for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, co-authored with Linda Miller and published by Gryphon House. She has held numerous positions in local, state, and national professional organizations and has served her profession on the Advisory Panel of the NAEYC's Academy for Program Accreditation, consulting editor for Young Children, and a reviewer for Early Education and Development.
Before joining Innovations, Kay founded HeartsHome Early Learning Center, a nationally accredited early childhood program, where she served as executive director for 14 years. She lives in Houston, TX.
